We put a fat $100 down on the new small rivian SUV, the R2. I just got my order window for the end of the year and I still need to test drive it & convince JFran it's the one (it'll be her car)
sure looks sweet but I haven't been paying that much attention. The Reddit forums are filled with angst about lack of lidar, tech I think Tesla has intentionally qvoided
The R2 should be a cool car. The angst about lidar is valid but i think it probably has to do with RJ promising it with self-driving later this year, but it wasn't ready for R2 launch date, so they're trying to get a bunch of R2s out the door without the self-driving suite even though they'll be shipping them with the suite in a few months.
Whether or not lidar will be required long-term ¯\(ツ)/¯ - Vision has problems, but they're becoming fewer and fewer.
